Modals of speculation

Thursday, January 22

Today, the teacher taught us Modals of Speculation. After her explication we did the page 16 part 10 of the ActiveBook.

Modals of speculation:

Modals of speculation are used to make a guess of a situation either in the present, past, or in the future. They are also called (modals of deduction or certainty)

When we are talking in present or in future we use the following modal of speculation

MUST, MAY, MIGHT, COULD, CAN + INFINITIE

Note

Must:
This modal verb are used to say something that we are almost convinced about it or when we are completely sure, that we will say.

Example:

Where is Paula? it is very late and she has not arrived
She must be in the traffic jam

When we are talking in a progress action we use MODAL VERB + ING

Example:

Mom, where is my father?
I don’t know honey, he may be working in the yard.

When we make guesses in past we use the following structure
MODAL VERBS + HAVE + PAST PARTICIPLE

Note: remember which the modal verbs are (must, may, might, could, can)

Example:

Joseph, I don’t fine my notebook.
You may have left in the school.

Tuesday, January 27

This day, the professor made a dynamic activity. She gave us some words for create sentences with them but, before that, we had to make groups for 4 members. The group that created more sentences, it was the winner.

Next, the teacher gave us a little explanation about the future tense.

Will: decisions at time of speaking. Also are used to express predictions (knowledge/belief)

Present progressive: details (time/place)

Example:
I’m going to Paris the next month.

Be + going to + verb: plans/ intensions

Example:
I’m going to buy a house within 2 years.

Then, we learned future forms as a review, this topic was explained by Alexandra. For this, we saw the page 23 of ActiveBook. In this page, had some interesting images of which we were talking. Afterwards, we saw a video that she put us on, this video was about the pictures that were in the book. Later, we solved the exercises of the book.

Alexandra, explained the futures tenses with a slide her explanation was grate. The first topic was Future Perfect.

Future perfect is used to express a plan it will be performing before another event in the future.

                                           Structure:
Subject + auxiliary verb (will) + auxiliary verb (have) + main verb (past participle) + object

Exercises done in class:

By the time I finish this class, I will have had new knowledge to solve my next homework.

By the time I go to the party, I will have done my projects.

By the time I take a job, I will have had my own department.
Future Continuous

We use future continuous to talk about an action that will be in a realization progress in the future.

                                                Structure:

                          I + WILL + BE  + VERB (ING)

Tomorrow I will be studying for my exam.
