Unit 7

Unit 7

In this unit I learned pretty much, I have to say that one and other topic were a bit complicated for me, but I know that I have to review them. One of the topics that the teacher taught us was passive forms. I will talk about this later.

Passive forms

Passive forms are used to talk about an action that was performed and to focus mainly on the action no matter who or what has carried out it. The teacher gave us some examples.

Examples given in class

Present simple
(Active voice) Sam buys cars every moth.
(Passive voice) Cars are bought every month.

Past simple
(Active voice) Sam bought those cars
(Passive voice) Those cars were bought (by Sam “optional”)

Present progressive
(Active voice) Sam is buying that car
(Passive voice) That car is being bought (by Sam)

Present perfect progressive
(Active voice) Sam has been buying cars like crazy
(Passive voice) Cars have been being bought like crazy

Modals
(Active voice) Sam shouldn’t have bought those cars
(Passive voice) Those cars shouldn’t have been bought by Sam.

Next to the explanation, the teacher asked us to make a groups for 2 members to do a dynamic activity.
The activity consisted to create a sentences with this part of grammar that we learned in the class, so my partner and I as activity did some sentences explaining how you should bathe a pet.

As homework the teacher left us some sentences in active voice to pass them in passive voice and the page 83 and 84 part 7 of the active book.

Causative forms: have/get (something) done.

Causative forms are used to allow someone to do something for us or instead of us.

Example done in class

I have my ironing done by Marina.
I have my hair dyed one every six months.
She is having her hair cut or She got her hair styled.
Someone got the washing machine checked.
The judge had the witnesses interrogated because he needs more evidence.

For this theme the teacher took a presentation/game according to the topic to leave it clear. It was too funny. I had to make groups of 2 members to play the game.

Afterwards, we have to do the page 87 of the book.

For homework we did the page 88 part 8 and 9 and the page 89.

The vocabulary learned was:

Paws – Patas
Fur – Piel
Fins – Alas
Claws – Garras
Hooves – Pezuñas
Beak – Pico
Feathers – Plumas
Whiskers – Bigotes
Talons – Garras.
