Unit
8 and 9
I
will tell you about the topic that for was interesting in these units.
Reported
speech
When we want to tell what
someone said or thought to another person, we use reported speech.
Example:
I drank coffee yesterday ---
He said (that) he had drank coffee the day before.
Reporting verbs
This is other way to express
what someone say or admitted previously.
After the teacher explained to
us the topic, she put us on such a wonderful video about the Steve Jobs’s live. Next, we had to write sentences with what Steve Jobs had said in the video, but the sentences had to be written with reporting verbs.
Video
I will give you an example
that I did in class.
Example:
He admitted falling in love
with an amazing woman who would become in his wife.
We can us create sentences
with the following words:
say, explain + verb + (that)
tell, warn + verb + object +
(that)
ask, remind + verb + object
+ infinitive
promise, decide + verb + infinitive
suggested, admitted + verb +
gerund
(page 96 of the ActiveBook)
Past modal of deduction
As the same way that we use
the modals to predict something, also there is a way to speculate the past.
Structure:
Subject + modal of deduction
+ have + past participle + complement
Example:
She might have stayed in
Ofelia’s house the day before.
To remind modals of deduction
or speculation I will show you:
Must, might, can’t have
The vocabulary learned was:
Outgoing - Extrovertida
Single-minded - Mente individual
Witty - Ingenioso
Sue - Demandar
Arson - Incendio
